A Spiritual Sojourn In The Solar System

5 min readJul 8, 2024

I love tech and new innovations, but I always try to reconnect to the deeper timeless aspects of life as a daily practice.

This started most prominently when I was teaching at a behavior school and I needed to get kids who really didn’t want to learn math to not only learn it, but engage in it in a meaningful way. Their struggle wasn’t unique to their plight. I think everyone has this inner kid that wrestles with the immediate needs of the now versus the unmet desires.

Many times people are locked in this mode of reactive thinking. And it was very true in the classroom. I looked up different methods of teaching and the Waldorf School stood out.

I didn’t do a full deep dive into all the school’s teaching methods, but I saw a “lesson” involving Metatron's cube. And I made the cube myself to understand the benefits. The biggest one is if I made a template and guided students through the assembly of any of the 4 platonic solids, they could create complex 3d shapes on their own. This was one example of a practical connection to the spiritual.

And so the founder of the Waldorf School, Rudolf Steiner, was also the founder of biodynamic farming, and several other fields. He was a spiritual Miles Davis if you will seemingly creating new industries from his spiritual practice.

He also dubbed the term Spiritual Science, which seems counter intuitive at first glance, but it is so pertinent for someone like me. Because I love tech. I love cryptocurrencies and I love AI. But why is it that I love them so much? It is because there is something divine about making measurable consistent improvement. There is also something divine about incorporating efficiencies in one’s life to enable more freedom.

Fast forward several years and I realize that I have minimized many of my fears and maximized my love in many ways through my practice, but there were some areas where I needed to literally do a 180 if I was to tell the universe I was serious about being fully present in this existence.

The major theme I kept bumping into was harmony. Harmony of all of my energies. Harmony of my passion for spirit and science. Harmony of my “me-time” and family time. And when any of these tilted too much one way, no efficiency could compensate for the low-vibes that would ensue.

I loved Steiner and listened to many lectures, books and essays thanks to Dale Brunsvold. And this led me down a rabbit hole of esoteric teachers that ripped open new worlds of perception for me. Alan Watts (master of paradoxes), Rabbi Kushner (imminent and transcendant spirituality), and the latest author was a Kabbalist witch named Sara Mastros.

Witchcraft was one of those areas I stayed away from and due to that avoidance a fear of it was growing. Harmony means tapping into many schools of thought to find what I connect with.

I read her book on the Sorcery of Solomon, and this lead me to Solomon’s written non-biblical work called the Keys of Solomon. The huge take away from the keys (besides some of the most inspiring prayers I have seen in my life) was that Solomon had a particular science in the way he did magic.

He observed that days had ruling planets along with the sun and moon. And that all planets did a dance with the days ruler. Here is the map:

  • Sunday — Sun
  • Monday — Moon
  • Tuesday — Mars
  • Wednesday — Mercury
  • Thursday — Jupiter
  • Friday — Venus
  • Saturday — Saturn

Just thinking about or reading the importance of the spiritual aspects of these planets, the moon and sun helps to see ways to improve energy balance in my life. Here is a breakdown of some ways to think of each day energy.

The Sun
It is important to be grateful for and meditate on the spiritual aspects of the Sun. How it shines its internal essence out in every direction. How it sustains life of all material beings on earth. How its power causes all to rotate about it and generate cycles. And how obstacles to its universal good create shadows, but even in those shadows, light comes through.

The Moon

The moon rules over water, and water has memory (proved by Dr. Masaru Emoto). Thus as the moon tugs at the earth’s water it tugs at ours. Pulls our emotions and pushes them so that no thing is pulling our attention away from the power of the eternal now. Trauma or pleasure from the past can do this. It can diminish our awareness now or our value of the moments we have. The emotions stirred up by the moon are meant to be lived through and processed.

Mars
Mars is electric. Its bolt of energy helps is take our focus to not only address the areas brought up by the moon, but also take action to plan for our future. I like to think of Usain Bolt. And he is a good metaphor because our bodies are here for a reason and they should be involved in helping us care for our immediate environment and the environment of others.

Mercury
The gathering of information, meetings, parties, research, networking, social events, and teaching are all in this category. It is this level of knowing that unifies the Mars energy and the energy that is to come.

Jupiter

Jupiter honors the knowledge of Mercury and says, “OK, but what if we do this thing we haven’t done before?” The known is in the domain of Mercury. The unknown is Jupiter, kicking us out of the nest. Unplanned roadtrips, mashups of two concepts, parties, stepping out of the comfort zone, are all intended to place us in the path of abundance. You can’t know what opportunities are out there if you have exhausted the opportunities and cease to discover.

Venus

Venus reminds me of the Moon in that it applies all levels of love to our depths, and the depths of others, until it appears on our face. The beauty and energy for physical appearance of self, home, or others. It becomes something that is an attractive pair to Jupiter’s excursions. In this way, abundant energy comes to us because we put some thought into our expression. The flower attracting the bee is a perfect analogy.

Saturn

All these energies I have mentioned have to be in balance. Too much of one makes a mess. Spoils the excess. Spends our resources. Makes us too emotional or reactive. But balancing all sets things in order. Cleans all rooms of our home. And when it is time to shine, we can evenly shine in every direction.

My practice has me thinking of these areas each day and doing so has allowed me to have some objectivity about life. I realize that I am here to bring light to all these areas. And do what I can and reflect on how I can do better. This is why I get many many chances to revisit these energies.

In future posts, I will deep dive into my journal entries related to these areas, but I hope that exploring this sparks something in you that leads to your desires being fulfilled.
